Honoring the Achievements of America’s Agriculturalists

As the farmer’s business has changed, so has their involvement in the community. Today’s farmer has become an active citizen, participating in everything from local and state government to civic groups and charitable organizations.

It is not only fitting that farmers be honored for their contributions and achievements — it is essential. The National Outstanding Young Farmer (NOYF) Award has been established to recognize outstanding achievements in agriculture as well as community involvement.

The National Outstanding Young Farmers Award Nomination

The first step to be considered for the National Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year award is to be nominated. Nominations can be submitted by anyone and multiple nominations from any one state are permitted but no more than two from any state will be chosen once semi-finalists are determined. Once all nominations are received by the September 1 deadline, nomination forms will be numbered, and all personal contact information removed. Forms will be copied and shared with OFA officers and other selected judges along with a scoring sheet. Once scoring sheets are submitted to the NOYF Candidate Coordinator, and tallied, ten NOYF finalists will be determined and invited to attend the OFA Annual Convention where four National Outstanding Young Farmers of the Year will be recognized at the closing banquet.

  • Nominees must be from the United States.
  • All nominations must be received before September 1 of each year.
  • Nomination forms can be completed on-line or submitted by email or mail and cannot be handwritten.
  • Nominees must be between the ages of 21 and 40, not becoming 41 prior to January 1.
  • Nominees must be actual farm operators, deriving a minimum of two-thirds of their income from farming.

Nomination forms are scored with the following categories:

  • Progress in agricultural career (50%)

  • Extent of soil and water conservation practices (25%)

  • Contributions to the well-being of the community, state, and nation (25%)
